Review highlights
Based on 427 reviewsEsca is widely recognized for its welcoming atmosphere and consistently high-quality coffee offerings. Patrons appreciate the combination of cozy indoor and inviting outdoor seating, which creates a relaxed environment ideal for casual visits or breaks during a busy day. The café’s menu, particularly breakfast items and specialty dishes like potato rösti, frequently receives praise for flavorful, well-prepared meals. Service is often described as friendly and attentive, with staff members remembered for their politeness and personal touches. While some customers note that certain drinks, such as matcha lattes, may lack intensity, the overall impression is of a reliable neighborhood spot with a strong focus on quality and customer experience. The ambiance, enhanced by characterful interiors, adds to the café’s appeal as a favored destination in the Glebe area.
While exploring Glebe, I stopped by Esca Cafe & Restaurant for a quick break. I ordered the Iced Matcha Latte, and it was refreshing but quite mild in flavor — I personally prefer a stronger matcha taste. The vibe of the cafe was relaxed, with a cozy outdoor seating area perfect for people-watching. Overall, it’s a nice spot for a casual stop, especially if you’re strolling around the area, but if you’re a hardcore matcha lover like me, you might find the drink a little too light.
The coffee is always great in here. The staff are always polite and lovely, the young man remembered my order and name very quickly which is a nice way to start the day. There is inside and outside seating, nice vibe. I didn't eat in here but the food always looked good.
Went here for breakfast nearly every single day while I was working in Sydney and everything I ordered was on point and tasted amazing. Highly recommend the Tuscan breakfast was perfect meal after working night shift that and a hot chocolate. The service is 5 star and would definitely go back if I’m ever in Sydney again.
I had the thyme potato rösti and it was absolutely amazing! The flavors were spot on, and the texture was perfect. The service was also fantastic, friendly and attentive. Honestly, I don’t understand why this café has such a low rating on Google Maps. I had a great experience and would definitely recommend this venue to anyone!
The best coffee I've had in my 22 years of existence. Love the solid timber flooring showing the wear of people lining at the counter and adds characteristics. The owner himself showed some characteristics by yelling at a boy leaving his bike in front of the cafe, but it's understandable. Good place, it's the best spot in the whole area, no other coffee shop except this one for me! (Also they have cheese and wine) (For when the workday is big stress)
Had a lovely time at Esca. I had read the reviews, and was a little nervous, but we had a great experience. The manager was very welcoming, even preparing a special gluten-free meal, and the food was good quality and fresh. Perhaps we were just incredibly fortunate, but overall, there was nothing to fault.
Had a great brunch here. Good Campos coffee. Delicious food. Friendly service. Family friendly and some tasty looking cakes in the cabinet. Baked Tuscan eggs were a highlight and our kids devoured the french toast.
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Cafe Esca has truly become my office away from home. Whether it’s long working lunches or relaxed meetings, this place delivers every single time. The staff are warm, attentive, and welcoming, creating an atmosphere that makes you feel like part of the family. The food is consistently exceptional—fresh, flavorful, and beautifully presented—and pairs perfectly with the inviting vibe of Glebe. What I love most is the atmosphere: it’s the kind of space that sparks both productivity and connection, whether you’re diving into work or catching up with friends. A true Glebe gem that deserves every bit of local support. Highly recommend Cafe Esca if you’re looking for quality, comfort, and community all in one spot.
